Townsville North Queensland has no plans to slow down

There are already a number of significant renewable energy projects operating in and planned for the Townsville North Queensland region.

We have over $740 billion worth of potential traditional and new economy mineral projects in the North West Minerals Province, State Government funding for the first-ever vanadium processing plant in the country, battery metals processing and manufacturing plants making progress at the Lansdown Eco-industrial Precinct, and proponents pushing ahead with the enabling infrastructure like CopperString 2.0 and the Hells Gate Dam pumped hydro project.

North Queensland is already doing the heavy lifting when it comes to the renewable revolution and decarbonisation, and we have no plans to slow down.

The time is now to ensure that Townsville North Queensland is top of mind, has the key infrastructure in place and has the local, state and federal government support to capitalise on this opportunity and secure the future of our region.

Yesterday, we highlighted the important role critical minerals plays in Townsville North Queensland's green energy story. And today, Queensland Pacific Metals announced its strategic collaboration with General Motors via a material investment and long term offtake agreement.

The agreement includes an equity investment of $108M AUD to help accelerate nickel production at Queensland Pacific Metals’ proposed Townsville Energy Chemicals Hub (TECH) Project. This announcement is another sign of confidence in Queensland Pacific Metals and Townsville North Queensland as a green energy manufacturing hub. A timely announcement to leverage on our Townsville North Queensland Green Energy Investor Mission in South Korea.
