Townsville Enterprise invites you to the 2024 Townsville North Queensland Green Energy Futures Forum


Join us at the 2024 Green Energy Forum, to learn how this exciting new industry will secure future of Townsville North Queensland.


Our region is currently delivering as a green hydrogen hub and we have all the assets to be a world leading green energy provider. With the recent CopperString announcement, Townsville North Queensland has catapulted itself into the epicenter of the green energy transition. There is no better time than now to come together to learn about existing green energy projects already in place and those on their way to becoming a reality.


The forum will include high profile speaker sessions, including an address from our Key-Note speaker, Chief Development Officer of Windlab, Nathan Blundell.


You will hear current and upcoming Green Energy projects within the region, participate in a Q/A panel of respected industry leaders, as well as for the first time, Green Energy Industry Site Tours across the region the day following for the forum.

    Nathan Blundell is a globally experienced leader with more than 20 years’ experience in the energy sector, and is featured as our 2024 Green Energy Forum Key-Note Speaker.

    As Windlab’s General Manager of Development he oversees $30 billion of projects and a development pipeline of more than 20GW.

    Nathan established his career in oil and gas, working across the full resource lifecycle for internationals BP, Shell and PetroChina both in Australia and the United States. His desire to expand his industry experience into renewables saw him complete his Masters in Sustainable Energy at the University of Queensland before joining Windlab in 2021.

    John Cole is the Founder and Chief Executive of Edify Energy, a leading Australian utility scale renewable energy company.  John has spearheaded renewable energy development in Europe, UK and Australia for the last 15 years. 

    Prior to establishing Edify in 2015, John was co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of London based Low Carbon. Edify has originated, financed and delivered 1 GW of utility scale solar PV and battery storage projects, with a strong pipeline of projects to follow.

    Edify Green Hydrogen (EGH2) is a consented, late stage, investment ready up to 5multi GW green hydrogen production facility to be built out in stages to meet the needs of domestic and export markets, together with a behind-the-meter solar photovoltaic and battery storage facility.

    The initial stage is a 17.5 MW facility, in respect of which, the outstanding attributes of the project have been independently verified, Edify has uniquely secured Australian and German government funding:
    • $48.2m from the Department of Industry, Science, Environment and Resources, , leading the development of Townsville’s Hydrogen Hub.
    • with Siemens Energy under the German-Australian Hydrogen Innovation and Technology Incubator (HyGATE) initiative, $ $20.74m from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and €16.4m from the Projektträger Jülich.

    John holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from James Cook University and a Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management.

    Nick is the Founding Director and Director of Renewables for NGH Consulting, a multidisciplinary environmental and planning firm operating across Australia for over 30 years.
    With a focus on environmental impact assessment and environmental management for large-scale renewable energy infrastructure, he is recognised for professionalism, integrity, and expertise in the Australian renewable energy sector.

    Nick’s experience spans hydroelectricity since 1992, wind farm developments since 2004, solar since 2008, and more recently, hydrogen and battery energy storage systems. He has facilitated practical solutions for a multitude of renewable energy developers in complex scenarios.

    Over time, Nick has developed an understanding of and nurtured productive relationships with government regulators and senior leaders in the sector. Longevity, knowledge, and robust relationships have helped secure successful outcomes for over 35 wind and 40 solar farm projects across Australia and helped inform and influence positive change for the sector.

Throughout her time in the Federal Parliament she has campaigned to bring manufacturing back home to regional Queensland, for more social and affordable housing, for stronger medicare, for cheaper childcare and for a better future for Australians.

    Since the Albanese Labor Government won the 2022 election Nita has become the Special Envoy for the Great Barrier Reef. Nita knows just how important an asset the Reef is for regional Queensland, it is not just a beautiful world wonder but it supports 64,000 jobs and brings over $6 billion into the economy. It is worth protecting so that it will be around for generations to come.

    Beginning his career mechanical engineering within industrial manufacturing, Murray joined Siemens in 2007 as a pre-sales application engineer. Subsequent roles in project engineering, project management, sales, marketing and bid management developed his skillset making him an industry leader in deployment of mechanical, electrification, automation and digitization solutions in diverse industries including utilities, resources, infrastructure, transportation and manufacturing.

    Daniel is currently the Technical Manager at Ark Energy, responsible for the Future Fuels team. He is a Mechanical Engineer and holds a Master's from QUT, where his research investigated vanadium redox flow batteries. He has industry experience in delivering complex technology projects, from concept through to commissioning.

    Currently, he is a member of "ME-093 Hydrogen Australian Standards.” Previously, Daniel sat on the International Hydrogen Safety Scientific Committee and was an advisor to the Future Fuels Cooperative Research Centre, sitting on the steering committee. Daniel was heavily involved in the first national hydrogen strategy, authoring papers on the impacts of hydrogen in gas transmission pipelines and gas appliances.

    He was previously Managing Director at HSBC, Renaissance Capital, Bank of America and Royal Bank of Canada and has a Bachelor of Engineering & Computing (Hons) from Monash University and is a Graduate in Corporate Finance from the Securities Institute of Australia.

In August 2008 Ross was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Alinta Energy. Ross completed a capital restructuring of the business and stepped down from the CEO and Managing Director role in April 2011.

Green Energy - Industry Site Tours

Join us on a half day Industry Site Tour across the Port of Townsville, along the Port access road to the Wulguru Group, finishing with a tour of the new Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Training Facility at the TAFE Queensland Bohle Campus.

Please note:
Pick up will be from The Ville Resort-Casino at 8am
Friday the 3rd of May
Tour will conclude at 12pm with an estimated arrival back at The Ville at 12:30pm
Morning tea and water is included within your ticket price
Closed in footwear is to be worn for the duration of the tour, and you will need your drivers licence
